Inspired by the beloved children's book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, Dot Day encourages us all to make our mark in the world—just like Vashti, who began her journey of self-discovery with a simple dot on a piece of paper
Project:
After reading the book "The Dot", students are encouraged to create their own unique dot. We used coffee filters, crayons, markers, and watercolors for this dot project. First, we cut the coffee filter to the shape we wanted, a snowflake, heart, or could stay as a circle. We then decorated the dots using white crayons and oil pastels. We finished by using watercolors and washable markers to make our own unique dots.
Extension:
Dot Storytelling:
Have students write a short story or poem that is centered around a dot or a series of dots. They can illustrate the story, making it a visual and narrative experience. This could connect to themes of imagination, growth, and exploration as seen in The Dot.
